Vandals Destroy Newly Planted Crop
A Five Points farmer experienced a considerable loss during the weekend when two drivers vandalized a field, destroying his newly planted corn crop.
The victim, age 65, reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department that his grandson had been the one who heard strange noises around 12:30 a.m.
He looked out to find that two drivers were turning donuts in his grandfather’s field. He told deputies that he got into his truck and, when he did so, the driver of a truck, “took off and crossed the creek.”
The grandson said that he was able to “chase down” the second driver’s car, a Honda. He was able to obtain the license plate number and gave it to deputies. A check on the number revealed that the vehicle was registered to a Lawrenceburg woman.
After sunrise the victim made an assessment of the damages. He reported that he would have to replant approximately two acres of the field at a cost of around $1,500.
Investigation into the matter is currently on-going through the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
